Sat., June 8, 1 PM. David Griffin, a historian, and author, explores the context and fabric of the British occupation of the New York City region during the Revolutionary War. A 250 Event
Wed., June 19, 10 AM to 4 PM. A commemoration of the Juneteenth celebration, and the end of slavery in Texas in June 1865, featuring living history demonstrations, music and talks. (See the Calendary entry for this event for a full schedule of programs that day.)
Th., July 4, beginning at 10:30 AM. Our traditional Independence Day celebration, featuring a reading of the Declaration of Independence and tolling, 13 times, of the historic church bell. There will also be tours, talks, music and refreshments. A 250 Event
Sat., July 6, 1 PM. Walter Johansen, a historian, former Mt. Vernon middle school history teacher and a one-time Marine, explores the political framework and ideas that shaped Patriot political thought in the era of the American Revolution. A 250 event
Wed., July 10, 10 AM. St. Paul’s staff leads a walking, interpretive tour of the Pell’s Point battlefield, exploring the Revolutionary War battle of October 18, 1776, situated at what is today the northern end of Pelham Bay Park, in the Bronx, NY, where visitors will assemble for the tour. Space is limited, and reservations are required; contact the site for further information and reservations, at 914-667-4116.
Sat., July 13, 1 PM. Acclaimed author & historian Jack Kelly unravels the subject matter of new book, “God Save Benedict Arnold: The True Story of America’s Most Hated Man.” A 250 event
Sat., July 20, 1 PM. A talk, by St. Paul’s site manager David Osborn, about the life and times of Anne Hutchinson, religious pioneer, and Puritan rebel, who lived briefly near St. Paul’s at the end of her life in the 1640s.
Sat., July 27, 1 PM. St. Paul’s historian and museum educator Michael Grillo presents, “George Washington and the American Revolution,” a talk and living history demonstration. A 250 event.
Sat., Aug. 24, 1 PM. Professor Robb Haberman, who teaches American History at Fordham University, explores the life and times of the oft-forgotten American Revolution founding father John Jay. A 250 Event
Sat., Aug. 31, 1 PM. “Paradise Bronx: The Life and Times of New York's Greatest Borough,” an exploration of his new book, by acclaimed author Ian Frazier.
Monday, Sept. 2, 1 PM. In recognition of Labor Day, a performance and sing along of songs of workers, unions and strikes, with historical commentary, by St. Paul’s site manager David Osborn.
Sat., Sept. 7, 1 PM. Author and historian Michael R. Virgintino explores themes from his new book, “Freedomland, U.S.A.: More Definitive History,” recalling the large theme & amusement park of the 1960s that was located on land now occupied by Co-Op City in the northern Bronx, near St. Paul’s.
Sat., Sept. 14, 1 PM. Mark Perlman explores the story from his historical novel, “The Reluctant Soldier.”
Sat., Sept. 21, 1 PM. “Music of the Revolution,” an interpretive performance and talk, by Marc Ferris, a performance artist, historian, and author. A 250 event
Sat., Sept. 28, 1 PM. Author and historian Barnet Schecter explores themes from his widely lauded book, “The Battle for New York: The City at the Heart of the American Revolution.” A 250 Event
